Simple. Church.
Simple. Church.
When’s the last time you went to church? Last week? Maybe it’s been years? Maybe it’s been ... never?
What’s the point of going to church? Sure, we could go into an entire historical or theological dissertation. But there’s loads of that in print already. So, let’s keep it simple: simple church. In Acts 2, the early gatherings of the followers of Jesus are described like this:
And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. And all who believed were together and had all things in common. And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved. (42–47, ESV)
There’s a lot to unpack there, but as followers of Jesus ourselves, we have always wondered why this section of scripture has been, for the most part, largely ignored. So, as we start Become Love Church, our goal is simple, and that is to follow the Acts 2 model: 1. Gather together and share a meal; 2. Praise God (worship); and 3. Preach the Gospel and see people saved. That’s it. Simple.
Of course, there’s lots more to do: taking care of each other’s needs (“distributing the proceeds ... as any had need”); taking care of orphans and widows (James 1:27); and so much more!
But we’ll get to all that ...
Meanwhile, if you don’t have a home church, have been thinking about going to church, or want to check out a group of followers of Jesus who just want to keep it simple? You’re welcome to join us! Sunday nights. 6pm.
We hope to see you there!
